The 990 is a testament to the never-ending pursuit of quality and craftmanship, honed over generations of advancement. Instantly recognizable. But as you look closer, you start discovering the innovation.


The 990v7 represents a new chapter in the 990’s lineage. The goal was to strike the perfect balance between familiarity and progressiveness. It had to feel iconic, but also unmistakably new.


We refined the upper to create a sleeker, more elevated expression. We kept the essential pigskin suede and breathable mesh combination but introduced premium tumbled leather accents and elevated synthetic suede sway bars, creating something that feels familiar, yet surprising in execution.

The 990v7 represents a new chapter in the 990’s lineage. The goal was to strike the perfect balance between familiarity and progressiveness. It had to feel iconic, but also unmistakably new. A streamlined, angular upper with a new underlay

‘web’ was paired with a sculpted, ABZORB

cushioning-equipped midsole, featuring a visible-tech

inspired bubble design.

The first direct update to the 1982 original reflected 16 years of technological and design advancements. A streamlined, angular upper with a new underlay ‘web’ was paired with a sculpted, ABZORB cushioning-equipped midsole, featuring a visible-tech inspired bubble design.

The 990v3 brought the all-time classic into the new

millennium. A combination of ABZORB and ENCAP

cushioning was paired with updated visual elements:

a breathable mesh upper, spacious overlay design,

diamond patterned tongue, and ribbed ‘N’ branding

-transforming the iconic silhouette into the standard

bearer for technical, performance running-inspired design.

The 990v3 brought the all-time classic into the new millennium. The first 990 update to be introduced with the social

media age in full swing, the 990v4 fine-tuned the

ABZORB and ENCAP setup and streamlined the v3’s

mesh/suede cutout overlay design. The end result

was simultaneously easy to wear and ultra-contemporary,

earning an enthusiastic stamp of approval from

a new generation.

expansive overlay pattern. The addition of a

new running technology, FuelCell, combined 

state-of-the-art running inspiration with a standout

dual-color midsole.
